Keychron Q3 Max: my experience with the keyboard that no longer leaves my desk
My experience with the Keychron Q3 Max: a heavy wireless TKL keyboard with German ISO layout, QMK/VIA and exactly the right amount of nerdiness.

I went through a phase where every new keyboard was supposed to be the last one. Switches changed, keycaps swapped, foam stuffed into the case.
With the Keychron Q3 Max, that was the first time it stopped being tinkering and became calm.
Specifically, this is the Keychron Q3 Max QMK/VIA.
The 80 percent TKL version with German ISO layout, a massive aluminum case, rotary knob and the freedom to use it over 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth or USB-C.
If you are looking for a Keychron Q3 Max experience: this is my everyday life with exactly this keyboard, not a lab test.
Why exactly the Q3 Max
Because of the feel, not only because of the specs.
The keystroke is precise, but not harsh. The aluminum case removes that hollow plastic clatter. The gasket construction, PC plate and dampening make it sound full without screaming keyboard YouTube show.
What I like about it:
- 80 percent TKL layout: Arrow keys and the function row stay, the numpad is gone. Exactly right for my desk.
- ISO layout: A variant that makes sense for German typing instead of an ANSI compromise.
- Wireless or cable: 2.4 GHz for everyday use, Bluetooth for multiple devices, USB-C when it should be absolutely simple.
- QMK/VIA: Keys, layers and macros can be adjusted without logging into some vendor cloud.
- Hot-swap: Switches can be changed without soldering.
- Rotary knob: Mostly volume for me. Boring, but constantly useful.
The honest weaknesses
- It is heavy. For me that is a plus, for a backpack less so.
- It is not silent. Depending on the switches, people on video calls can sometimes hear that I am typing.
- VIA is powerful, but not pretty. You use it once, set everything up and close it again.
- It is not cheap. You are really paying for the case, wireless, firmware and feel here.
Why it stays
Because it does not look like a compromise.
No wobbly office board, no gamer plastic, no driver drama.
It is heavy, direct, customizable and still practical every day.
For me, the Keychron Q3 Max is exactly the kind of gadget that quickly becomes unspectacular after buying it.
It is not boring, it simply works every day. That is good stuff.
